Gravel Hill House

(hover or tap image for description)

A minimal second home for a couple with two kids.  Outdoor living is the top priority on their criteria list.  Due to the coastal flood condition, the house needs to be elevated.

Site climbs up toward south to a gravel hill adjacent to the northern boundary. Climbing up a steep gravel hill, you reach to the views overlooking Long Island Sound and a coastal pond.  The site led the design exploration of lifted levels with stepped sequence.  In counterpoint to the gravel hill, this house invites you climbing levels and discovering vistas inside and outside.  Interior-exterior mirrored stages provide the continuation of inside-outside living.
